Vocalists win Mid-Atlantic regional awards

The NATS at the Mid-Atlantic National Association of Teachers of Singing competition was held in Greensboro NC in early April as 500 singers from SC, NC, Virginia Maryland and Washington DC competed. Two Governor’s School singers were awarded 1st place in their categories and are eligible to compete at the National level: 

  • Paloma Menendez, a senior from Spartanburg, received 1st place in Music Theater for High School women.

  • Matthew Burn, a senior from Greenville, received 1st place in Classical, Advanced High School men.

In addition Matthew performed on the Honors recital at the end of the auditions and based on that performance was awarded the John Stoudenmire High School Excellence Scholarship for Outstanding Male.

The previous weekend we had singers compete at the Music Club of Greenville Scholarship competition and had two winners: 

  • Lisa Louw, a senior from Greenville, received the Music Club of Greenville Vocal Scholarship

  • Matthew Burn, a senior from Greenville, received the Music Club of Greenville Scholarship.
