Creative Writers Shining Bright

Senior Jackson Trice received a Gold Portfolio Award, which brings with it a $10,000 prize and an appearance onstage at Carnegie Hall in NYC. Three other seniors (Iain Espey, Cu Fleshman and Shelley Hucks) received Silver Medals with Distinction for their portfolios, winning $1,000 dollars apiece. And Shelley also won a Best in Grade Gold Medal in the Personal Essay/Memoir category, which earned her an additional $500.

Our writers won 8 national gold medals and 13 silver. Of the 36 awards given to writers in South Carolina, 21 went to Governor's School for the Arts students.
