2017 President's Alumni Award

We are accepting nominations for the 2017 President's Alumni Award! 
The purpose of this award is to recognize annually a SCGSAH graduate who has continued to embody the values of the residential high school program: responsibility, intellectual curiosity, growth, and service learning.

Alumni of the SCGSAH residential program who graduated from 2001-2011 are eligible. Deadline for nominations is Monday, January 16th. Please follow the criteria below and e-mail your nomination to meredith.cook@gsafoundation.net. 


Our mission is very clear regarding the values we expect each student to adopt while a member of the SCGSAH community. The Mission Statement states that in terms of student characteristics, we value:

Responsibility. Students share the responsibility for their learning.

Intellectual Curiosity. Students are best prepared to meet life's challenges by becoming critical and creative thinkers and problem solvers.

Growth. The school seeks to provide a solid foundation for continued artistic and academic development.

Service Learning. Students benefit from extending what they learn in the classroom to the arena of the larger community.

This award seeks to honor an alumnus or alumna who has taken these values to heart in the years since graduating, and someone for whom art has remained a priority in his/her life. In addition to a commitment to the arts and artistic achievement, the following criteria will be considered:

  • Continued to cultivate a personal responsibility for his/her intellectual growth
  • Maintained a keen intellectual curiosity about the world
  • Continued to evolve positively as a thinker and artist
  • Contributed in positive ways to his/her community

Alumni of the SCGSAH residential program are eligible for nomination. For the 2017 award, graduates from 2001 – 2011 are eligible.


An open call for nominations will be distributed by the GSA Foundation. Nomination should be returned to Meredith Cook via email meredith.cook@gsafoundation.net no later than Monday, January 16, 2017. 

Nominations should state clearly, in 400 words or less, how the candidate meets the selection criteria. Additional materials that support the candidate’s nomination, e.g., vitae, resumes, newspaper/magazine articles, published works, etc., may also be submitted. All nominations will be kept in a permanent file, held by the GSA Foundation, should they need to be revisited in future years.

The Award Selection Committee will review all nomination forms and, based upon the information provided, select up to three alumni for further consideration. The final selection will be made by the SCGSAH President, Dr. Cedric Adderley.


The honoree will be invited to travel to Greenville (travel and lodging expenses paid by the GSA Foundation) to accept the award at the Leadership Tribute Awards Ceremony in the spring of 2017. While in Greenville, the honoree will also be asked to deliver a presentation to the SCGSAH student body, sharing his/her experiences following graduation from Governor’s School.
